Camp SuperKids Asthma Camp

Volunteer Duties for Camp SuperKids

What:  The mission of Camp Superkids is to promote optimal health and wellness for children with asthma, ages 7-12,  in a camp setting. We strive to achieve a child-centered educational and social experience by providing opportunities to learn asthma management skills for life. We recognize the importance of fun and recreation, which address self-esteem, self-reliance, self-management of asthma, and social skills. We support an environment that preserves the dignity of each person in a loving and caring manner.

When: August 8-10, 2007, Volunteer training on August 7.

Where: Torino Ranch, Lovell Canyon

Duties: Volunteers are needed to staff the camp.  We are looking for the following:

      • Volunteers who will be camp counselors.  You will reside with another adult and up to 8 children in an air-conditioned cabin with bunk beds. There is a central, single sex facility for showers and toilets.   During the day, you will participate in or observe the activities the children are participating in.   If you have a special talent- arts and crafts, singing, drumming etc. that you would like to teach, we would love to hear about it!   A medical background is not necessary, but a love for working with children is.
      • Volunteers for kitchen duty.  We need volunteers who will work with a professional chef and prep and cook all the food in addition to clean up after each meal.   You may be asked to reside in a cabin with children if we need extra adult supervision.
      • Medical staff-  Physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists,  pharmacists, EMT, paramedics, medical students etc.  Primary duties include sharing rotating ”on-call” responsibilities, providing and overseeing medical care, distributing medications and reviewing and resolving camper care concerns.  You will reside with another adult and up to 8 children in an air-conditioned cabin with bunk beds.   Medical students are welcomed!
      • How it works:
      • Fill out a volunteer application.  To request one, please email a request to abeaulieu@lungnevada.org
      • A criminal background check will be conducted on all volunteers.
      • After successful completion of the application and background check, you will be notified of your acceptance.
